Common garden plants which are edible!

 

Bamboo – shoots

Beech (fagus sylvatica) – leaves

Bellflowers (campanula, all varieties) – young leaves, stems and flowers

Bladder Campion (silene vulgaris) – young leaves

Cardoon – leaf ribs and stalks, immature flower heads

Columbine (all aquilegia vulgaris varieties) – young leaves and flowers

Common Houseleek (sempervivum tectorum) – leaves and young shoots

Day Lilies (hemerocallis species) – flowers, unopened flower buds

Fuschias – all fruits. NB Not all species produce fruit

Heuchera - leaves

Honesty (lunaria annua) – leaves, flowers and taproots

Hostas – leaves

Ice Plants (any variety) – leaves

Lady’s Mantle (alchemilla mollis) – young leaves

Mallows (malva species) – leaves, shoots and flowers

Nasturtiums – leaves, flowers and seeds

Pot Marigold (calendula officinalis) - leaves and flower petals

Primrose (p. vulgaris) - flowers

Red Valerian – leaves and young shoots

Roses – flowers and rosehips when seeds and hairs are removed

Solomon’s Seals (polygonatum species) – young shoots

Violets (viola species) – flowers, flower buds and leaves NB Use flowers in moderation especially yellow ones as they can sometimes cause a stomach upset

White deadnettle (lamium album) – leaves and young stems

Wintergreen – fruit and leaves
